Over 60% Of Ghanaians Enjoy Eating Fish….Hawa Koomson

Mavis Hawa Koomson, the minister of fisheries and aquaculture development, has stated that compared to other proteins, fish is consumed by Ghanaians at a rate of roughly 60%.

She estimates that Ghana’s per-capita consumption is 26 kg annually.

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture remarked at the National Blue Economy Summit in Accra that it was critical that Ghanaians avoid polluting the water because doing so has terrible effects on their health and the ability of fishermen to have a bountiful harvest.

She said that in order to prevent people from engaging in illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the rules must be upheld.

“Fish is preferred over other proteins and meat by over 60% of the pollution in Ghana. The nation consumes 26 kilograms of fish per person year, which indicates that we are a nation that consumes a lot of fish, according to Mavis Hawa Koomson.

“We must halt polluting the ocean. To be able to restore the fish stocks and other species in the water, we must implement measures and enforce laws to stop people from engaging in those illegal actions, she said.

According to Mavis Hawa Koomson, the preservation of the sea will stop fishermen from gathering trash, particularly plastic trash, when they cast their nets for fishing.
