The New Patriotic Party (NPP), among other offenses, is being accused of vote buying by Kwasi Amankwaa, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate for parliament in the Kumawu by-election.
Mr. Amankwaa is concerned that some elderly and mentally ill people are being transported to polling places to cast their ballots.
He told Ibrahim Abubakar of Media General during an interview while touring various polling places on Tuesday, May 23, “It is very pitiful that the NPP have to resort to buying votes, then sharing money and pretending for these people to come and tell the EC that they are disabled.”
“So they escort them to come vote for the NPP.”
He claimed to have brought the issue up with the police and the Ghanaian Electoral Commission (EC) in order to seek restitution.
We can all tell whether someone is unfortunate enough to be crippled. These people who are disabled are now telling me that they are mentally ill and that they can’t even recall what they want to accomplish.
Voting is not allowed for those who are not in good mental health.
