New Contentious Penalty Rules Are About To Be Implemented.

With new rules coming into effect on July 1st, goalkeepers will now face greater difficulty while facing penalty kicks. Emi Martinez’s antics during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar are thought to have forced the need for the rules.

Martinez’s ability to inflame opponents contributes to some of his effectiveness in saving spot-kicks. In the World Cup final versus France, he did so with great success as Aurelien Tchouameni and Kingsley Coman failed to make an impact.

All of this is about to change, though, according to new rules that the International Football Association Board (IFAB) approved and will put into force later this year.

Prior to the penalty being called, the goalkeeper must stay on his or her goal line and not touch the net, posts, or crossbar. Also, the caretakers will not be permitted to postpone the punishment’s execution.

The goalie will now be prohibited from engaging in any disrespectful behaviors, such as celebrations, should they save the penalty.

Sharp responses to the new rules have been received, with France’s new number one Mike Maignan responding sarcastically.

If the goalie moved one of his foot off the line and saved the penalty, the penalty is typically retaken. This rule doesn’t account for the hesitations penalty takers make before releasing the ball. It would be intriguing to observe how goalkeepers will now try to distract their opponents because the penalty is frequently a game of wits.

On July first, the new regulations take effect.

Sections of the mdia had previously reported that an unusual football regulation had resulted in Kai Havertz’s goal for Germany vs Peru being disallowed.

On March 25, Germany played Peru in a friendly match, and there was an interesting incident involving Havertz. The Chelsea player appears to struggle with penalties as he most recently made headlines for one against Borussia Dortmund.
