Yaw Danso, who was put on leave in October 2022 after being accused of indulging in unlawful mining, has now been formally fired.

Dan Botwe, the minister of local government, rural development, and decentralization, informed the Ashanti Regional Minister of the decision to fire Yaw Danso on Friday.

Following inquiries into the accusations against Yaw Danso, President Akufo-Addo took this action.

According to a circulating audio clip, Yaw Danso was charged with galamsey, a term for unlawful mining that is widespread in Ghana.

After the suspension, some Assembly members in Bosome Freho urged the presidency to look into the accusations more thoroughly.

During a special meeting with MMDCEs, President Akufo-Addo had initially invited Yaw Danso to defend himself against the allegations.

However, the choice to fire Yaw Danso was made in light of the findings of the investigations.

Dan Botwe wrote in a letter to the Ashanti Regional Minister, “His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has relieved Mr. Yaw Danso, the chief executive of the Bosome Freho District Assembly, of his position with immediate effect.”

Additionally, the letter underlined that Yaw Danso had been the target of severe charges of illicit mining when the decision was made.

President Akufo-Addo has proposed Kofi Adu Amoateng as the next Chief Executive of the Bosome Freho District Assembly in place of Yaw Danso.

This nomination complies with all applicable statutory and constitutional requirements.

The regional Electoral Commission is to carry out a confirmation procedure to confirm the new nomination.

President Akufo-Addo’s choice reflects his dedication to ending illegal mining in Ghana and making sure those who engage in it are held accountable.

The Ghanaian government’s efforts to prevent the negative impacts of unlawful mining on the environment and nearby communities are seen in the expulsion of a chief executive officer for indulging in illegal mining.
