The MSC Tessa is the first ship in MSC’s fleet and one of only a select few to surpass 24,000 TEU. Its 24,116 TEU capacity puts it ahead of Evergreen’s 24,004 TEU A-class boats, which include the first ship to carry more than 24,000 TEUs, but slightly below the recently delivered OOCL Spain, whose capacity is 24,118 TEUs.
The OOCL Spain is the first of a fleet of six ships that are currently being built, and it was constructed at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering shipyard in Nantong, China.
MSC Tessa was turned over on Thursday at the Changxing Shipbuilding Complex in Shanghai, according to state-affiliated media in China. China State Shipbuilding Company (CSSC), which verified the delivery, stated that it further cemented CSSC’s preeminent position in the industry of manufacturing extremely large containerships.

With a beam of 61.5 meters, MSC Tessa has a length of 399.99 meters. The largest container shipping company in the world, MSC, has placed an order at Hudong Zhonghua for four ultra-large containerships.
The MSC Irina and MSC Loreto, which have a claimed capacity of 24,346 TEUs, are two allegedly much larger ships that MSC has on order. These are the first of a line of six ships Yangzijiang Shipyard is constructing.
A division of China State Shipbuilding Company is Hudong Zhonghua.
