John Dramani Mahama, the former president, has adamantly denied attacking Ashantis during his most recent campaign in the Eastern Region.

According to several media sources, the former president made some derogatory remarks towards the residents of the Ashanti Region.
Residents of the Eastern Region are said to have been counseled by Mr. Mahama not to take a cue from their Ashanti counterparts who are strongly committed to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and do not ponder before voting for the elephant-symbol party.
The spokesperson for Mr. Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, refuted this assertion on April 14, saying, “The stated publication, which has been traced to UTV, an Accra-based television station, is untrue. No such statement has been made by President Mahama, either to UTV or during campaign events.
It was emphasized by Madam Bawah Mogtari that the former President is devoted to his campaign.
“Mr. Mahama remains focused on his ‘Building the Ghana we want Together’ campaign and will not be distracted by such dirty propaganda,” she said.

DISCLAIMER
The John Mahama Campaign has become aware of a false quotation allegedly made by the former president in which Ashantis are allegedly denigrated.
The aforementioned publication is untrue and has been misattributed to UTV, a Ghanaian television channel.
No such declaration has been made by President Mahama, not to UTV or during his campaign appearances.
We demand a retraction and apology from UTV because we think this is just another defamation attempt against Mr. John Mahama.
Mr. Mahama will not be sidetracked by such filthy misinformation as he continues to be committed to his “Building the Ghana We Want Together” campaign.
