Ghana Fails To Host 2023 Olympic Games

The 2023 olympic African Games have been moved to 2024, according to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), which made the announcement at a news conference on Tuesday in Accra.

The rescheduled event’s dates were not specified by the committee. Initially, the games were slated to run from Friday, August 4, 2023, through Saturday, August 19, 2023.

Due to conflicts with the African Union over the commercial rights of the games, African athletic federations had threatened the events.

But once a new protocol agreement was struck last week in Addis Abeba on the sidelines of the AU Heads of States Meeting, these problems were rectified.

Ghana has had difficulty getting the event’s requisite hosting infrastructure ready.

The University of Ghana Stadium is currently under construction, while construction at the Borteyman Sports Complex, which will hold the swimming, boxing, and indoor sporting events, is chronically behind schedule.

The University of Ghana’s academic calendar has also complicated work on the games village, as the ongoing presence of students in the Diaspora Halls makes it challenging for renovations to move along at the necessary rate.
