The amount represented almost 73% of the 3,200 enrolled students who had registered and begun lectures.

“With a revitalized attitude to our students/staff interactions and a better learning environment, I am certain that our student enrollment numbers will continue to improve in the 2023/2024 academic year,” stated Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, Vice Chancellor of the Ghana Christian University.

In order to ensure a 25% increase in enrollment from the usual enrollment of 1,800 students, the institution set up a Student Recruitment Committee last year, he said.

According to Prof. Afoakwa, GCTU is ready to enable the students to continue their pursuit of knowledge through ongoing learning and creativity.

“GCTU will not only be judged by the number of students enrolled, but also by the caliber of our graduates and the contribution they make to society after graduating from GCTU.”

In light of this, he said, “the University is starting on the overall development of our students by expanding their knowledge, skill, and attitude by linking practical industrial attachment and leadership abilities to improve their entrepreneurial capacity.

At least 80% of the students would participate in industrial attachments in organizations that would need their skills after graduation, the GCTU Vice Chancellor stated.

Additionally, he stated that the GCTU would support scholarship by implementing problem-based learning, experiential learning, and transforming student experiences through the use of cutting-edge ICT.

Prof. Afoakwa emphasized that academic independence, excellence, and integrity were the university’s three main basic values that served as its compass in both principle and daily life.

As a result, he challenged the students to make the most of GCTU by striving to be the best in all of the university’s co-curricular and extracurricular activities and to represent GCTU in each of them.

“Let us commit on this day to uphold a friendly and cordial connection with one another and to make this University proud by being disciplined, punctual, and giving of our best in all fields,” he continued.

A student named Sawyer Joel praised the university for its infrastructure and teaching and learning environment in the matriculating class’s anticipation speech.

His colleagues should “keep on thinking we can be better than we are now, that we can succeed no matter the challenges,” he added, adding that they were sure the GCTU would fulfill its goal.

“The initiative is now in your hands. Consider where you are coming from. Be cautious who you choose as friends. Never forget to pray. And never allow failure define you.”
