Ebenezer Twum Asante has been named the new chairman of the bank’s board by Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Plc.

Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah, who left the Board in October 2022, is succeeded by him. The Bank of Ghana has given its approval for his appointment.
His nomination became effective on March 1 of this year. He was formerly an Independent Non-Executive Director of the bank.
He was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director to the board in May 2019.
He participated in the Board’s risk and audit committees and, up until recently, served as its chairperson for the risk committee for cyber and information security.
With a background in the FMCG, Fintech, and mobile telecoms industries, Mr. Asante has extensive general management and corporate leadership expertise.
Now serving as the Senior Vice President (SVP) for Markets for MTN Group, Mr. Asante is in charge of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Southern and East Africa (SEA), and West and Central Africa (WECA) areas (MENA).

After serving as CEO of MTN Ghana and Rwanda, he was Vice President for the SEAGHA and WECA areas before taking on that position.
After leaving Unilever, where he spent 13 years in a variety of roles ranging from graduate trainee to managing director of Zambia, customer development director, and member of the Unilever Ghana Board of directors, he joined MTN Ghana as a sales and distribution executive.
Mr. Asante sits on the boards of MTN Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, and Cameroon as a Non-Executive Director.
Professor Mrs. Akua Kuenyehia spoke on behalf of the Board and congratulated Mr. Asante on his new position.
