A PROMINENT MEMBER of the ruling government, who doubles as the Honorable Member of Parliament for the good people of Assin Central, Hon Kennedy Agyapong, has advised the Nana Addo led government to do more consultations on Ghana’s debt exchange program
Ghana’s financial standings is currently not in the best of shape and the government is seeking a $3 Billion loan facility from the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
However, as part of conditions to be met before securing the loan, the government of Ghana is expected to finetune its financial portfolio and make it look credible before they can access the loan
In view of this, government is embarking on a Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP) and as part of the arrangement, private individual bond holders are to receive a trimming on their investments, something the individual bond holders are up in arms against
There have been a lot of controversies and popular unrests since news broke of government’s intent in this regard
However, speaking to a Hello FM, a private radio station in Kumasi and monitored by Ghananewsaid.net, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central and flagbearer hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon Kennedy Agyapong has said, there needed to be more consultations on the issue at hand before government embarked on the move
He said within the past weeks, he has received lots of complaints from well – meaning Ghanaians who are venting their frustrations on the matter at hand
He is therefore calling for broader consultations with the affected individuals
