The NEC approved the blueprint put up by the election committee, which is led by Peter Marfo, the departing Eastern Regional Chairman of MUSIGA, at an urgent meeting held to discuss it.
The voter registration period ran from March 20 through April 3, 2023, under the roadmap. This enables members to look up their eligibility and status. From April 4 through April 18, 2023, a new voter’s list will be created in preparation for the election. The revised voter registration will thereafter be displayed from April 20 to April 23, 2023, after that.
The period leading up to Tuesday, August 8, 2023 will thereafter be given to candidates to conduct their campaigns for the countrywide elections.
Richard Abagna, the chairman of the Upper East Regional Commission, believes that the elections are overdue and that it is best for everyone if they take place as soon as possible to allow the Union to move on.
The majority of NEC members agree with this viewpoint, believing that holding the elections will enable the newly elected leaders to plan the biannual conference to discuss the Union’s constitution and other matters.

Due to a number of legal cases against the Union that prevented the elections from taking place, the MUSIGA elections that were scheduled for 2019 have been delayed. In its most recent decision on an application for an injunction against the elections, the Accra Labor and Justice Court decided that the polls could proceed in accordance with the decision of the Union’s Arbitration and Disciplinary Committee.
